Laparoscopic Surgery

Laparoscopic surgery is a much less invasive type of surgery than open surgery. It’s performed with the use of a camera, or laparoscope, placed in the abdomen or pelvis.  Laparoscopy allows surgeons to operate using only a few one forth inch incisions in the abdomen, whether the procedure is minor or complex. Laparoscopic surgeons then insert thin surgical instruments through the small openings.

The laparoscope guides the incisions by sending images from inside the body to a television or monitor that the surgeon can view. Diagnostic laparoscopy is also often used to diagnose conditions.

Laparoscopic weight loss surgery is less invasive and creates less tissue damage and smaller cuts, all leading to speedier recoveries and fewer complications, including postoperative hernias. Because of this, most weight loss surgery today is performed laparoscopically.

Lap Band surgery is laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding. In laparoscopic gastric banding procedures there are usually 2-5 small incisions made. This procedure does not involve any cutting or stapling inside the stomach and often does not take longer than one hour.
